The notification also provides for a 3% annual increase in TRCA subject to the applicable conditions, along with Dearness Allowance and certain other benefits under the GDS rules.
Important: GDS posts should not be treated as equivalent to regular Central Government employee posts. Their service conditions are governed by the GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules.
Is There Any GDS Exam?
No conventional written examination is conducted for this GDS engagement.
The selection/shortlisting process is based on the prescribed merit criteria, with candidates’ Class 10 marks playing an important role.
This is one of the biggest reasons why GDS recruitment attracts a large number of 10th-pass applicants every year.
However, candidates should not assume that simply having a high percentage guarantees selection. Community, vacancy, local-language eligibility, post preference and other conditions can affect the final result.
GDS Application Fee
The application fee is:
₹100
However, the notification provides fee exemption for:
- Female candidates
- SC candidates
- ST candidates
- PwBD candidates
- Transwomen candidates
Eligible exempted candidates can submit their application without paying the fee.
How to Apply for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026?

Step 2 – Wait for Application Window
The online application submission begins on 2 September 2026.
Step 3 – Enter Educational Details
Candidates need to provide their Class 10 board, passing year, marks and other required information.
Step 4 – Select Division & Preferences
Eligible vacancies will be displayed according to the candidate’s eligibility, including the applicable local-language and other conditions.
Candidates should pay special attention while filling their post preferences because the notification contains specific rules regarding preference and allotment.
Step 5 – Upload Photograph & Signature
Recent photograph and signature must be uploaded in the prescribed format.
Step 6 – Preview & Submit
Check every detail carefully before final submission.
Step 7 – Pay Fee
If applicable, complete the ₹100 fee payment before the deadline.
A Very Important Point About Post Preference
This is something candidates should not rush through.
According to the notification, a candidate can select eligible GDS vacancies in one selected Division and then give preferences among the eligible posts displayed for that Division.
If a candidate is found suitable for more than one preferred post, the post offered will depend on the order of preference and applicable selection conditions.
So before clicking the final submit button, check the Division, Post ID and preference order carefully.
Who Should Apply for GDS Recruitment 2026?
This recruitment can be particularly useful for candidates who:
- Have passed Class 10
- Meet the age requirement
- Have studied the required local language
- Are comfortable working in postal/rural areas
- Want to enter the India Post system without appearing for a conventional written examination
But candidates should also understand the nature of GDS engagement before applying. GDS is not the same as a regular Central Government employee post, and candidates should read the official service conditions carefully.
GDS Recruitment 2026 – Latest Update
Update as of 31 August 2026: The official India Post GDS portal is showing Schedule-II, July-2026 as an active notification. One-Time Registration has started today, while the application submission window will open on 2 September 2026.
Candidates who are planning to apply should not wait until the final day. Registration and application are separate stages, and both have strict closing times of 5:00 PM.
Final Words
For 10th-pass candidates, India Post GDS remains one of the recruitment opportunities worth watching because the process is merit-oriented and does not involve a conventional written examination.
However, don’t apply blindly just because the vacancy number looks attractive. Check your local-language eligibility, age, Class 10 marks, selected Division and post preferences first.
And most importantly, use only the official India Post portal for registration and application.
